Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer research that would lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next generation of pioneers in oncology and cancer-support care. My “FU”/ “Favorite Uncle”, Craig Cioffari, was involved with Swim Across America for many years before being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passing away in 2017. On July 26th I will be swimming in the Long Island Sound to raise money and awareness for cancer research and therapies. We must continue to find new and better treatments for cancer since there is often no “one treatment fits all” approach. According to the American Cancer Center 1 in 3 Americans will develop cancer in their lifetime. We all know someone who has fought cancer— We are all affected by this disease.
