Well, it finally happened to me . . . I was SO CLOSE to being scammed yesterday after all the things I've said about how I couldn't understand how people get scammed. Well, let me tell ya, they're coming up with all kinds of new ways to scam even the ones like me who think "they'll never scam me". I received an email from "McAfee", the computer virus people use and it said that they deducted almost $700 from my bank account and as soon as I saw that, I immediately called the number in the email and the scamming process started from there!! Luckily, the Good Lord was watching over me, as he always does, and my laptop computer battery wasn't charge enough to finish what the guy on the phone, supposedly from McAfee, was telling me I needed to do in order for him to refund this charge. I even told him that I was afraid of scams and that this just didn't seem quite right with me but he assured me that he wasn't taking from my account, he was crediting my account, and that they normally don't give refunds but that he was willing to do this for me, etc. So, I told him that I would have to contact him after work to finish and he told me to make sure that I called him back at the direct number he called me from or I would have to start the whole process over again. However, the more I thought about all of the little things he said to make me feel uncomfortable, like this could be a scam, there was no way I was calling him back until I contacted my bank, etc., which I did today and it is a scam!!!!! So, now I have to have my computer checked out, etc. I wanted to share this with you in hopes to help you from not being scammed. Just remember, if you ever get an email like that, don't do anything until you call your bank and then go from there. Because, most likely, you'll be in the same shoes that I'm in right now or worse and get scammed for sure.

PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN EFFECTED BY THE FLOOD. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST WITH EVERYONE!

Thank you, Elsie Lonon, Realtor with Re/Max Rising.

Hurricane Helene swept through parts of the Southeast leaving devastation in its wake, including significant damage to East Tennessee. While hurricanes rarely affect the region directly, the remnants of Helene brought heavy rains, flash flooding and high winds, causing widespread destruction. Communities were impacted by power outages, damaged homes, and infrastructure. In rural areas, fallen trees blocked roads, and the flooding affected local farms and businesses.

As many families are now displaced or dealing with the aftermath, the road to recovery is expected to be long. We are working with NAR to secure assistance from the Realtors® Relief Foundation (RRF). This nonprofit arm of the National Association of Realtors® has been instrumental in providing housing-related assistance to victims of disasters across the country. In East Tennessee, the RRF is offering direct financial support to individuals and families affected by Hurricane Helene.
