We are so very grateful to our Affirmed Housing family for setting up this amazing program in our beloved founders name. This is a great honor to Douglas W. Masson; he would be so proud that these scholarships are helping to further the education of these young individuals.

We are pleased to announce that we have awarded our first-year recipients of the Douglas W. Masson Memorial Scholarship! We received incredible applications from residents of our affordable and supportive housing communities across California and look forward to awarding more scholarships in the future.

The Douglas W. Masson Memorial Scholarship Program, a partnership between Affirmed Housing and Compass for Affordable Housing, is an annual scholarship to help our affordable housing residents pursue their academic goals.

Affirmed Housing and Compass for Affordable Housing are excited to announce The Douglas W. Masson Memorial Scholarship, a new annual scholarship available to all residents at Affirmed Housing communities throughout California! This important scholarship program was revamped and brought back to help our affordable housing residents pursue their academic goals. The scholarship is open now for applications through May 15 to residents pursuing higher education. Degrees included are: community college degrees, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, PHDs, vocational education and GEDs.

The scholarship is named in honor and memory of Doug Masson; owner and founder of Masson and Associates, Inc., a civil design firm based in San Diego County, CA. Doug was not only a business associate of Affirmed for the last 30 years, he was a dear friend to our team. When Affirmed was based out of Escondido in the 90’s, Masson & Associates was our co-tenant, with many good times shared! Cheers to you Doug and the legacy that you have left on this earth. Thank you for being such a kind, loving person that everyone wanted to be around.

Qualifications:
>California Registered Professional Land Surveyor
>Proficiency in the operation of recent versions of AutoCAD and Civil 3D
>Proficiency in the operation of Survey and GPS Equipment
>Drone Experience, a plus
>5+ years of demonstrated relative experience in Land Surveying, Boundary Analysis, Subdivision Mapping, Topographic Mapping, Legal Descriptions and Construction Staking

Responsibilities:
>Manages and Coordinates surveys and investigations of land surfaces and prepares Topographic Maps, Boundary Adjustments, Subdivision Maps, Records of Survey and Legal Descriptions. Supervision of Field Survey Operations.
>Ensures compliance to all applicable regulations and requirements including boundary calculations and legal ownership issues
>Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget
>Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of Land Surveying
>Performs a variety of complex tasks relating to Boundary and Topographic Surveying and Mapping.

Land Survey / Party Chief's main purpose:
• Party Chief insures proper techniques and procedures are used in all types of survey venues - Construction, Topographic, Aerial, ALTA's, Cadastral and Section breakdowns.
• Performs construction layout of horizontal and vertical control for civil and architectural construction projects.
• Performs field calculations, as needed.
• Performs error checking procedures.
• Keeps detailed notes of calculations, topographical surveys, level runs and points staked.
• Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Ensures client has good communications with field and office.
• Leads and direct others on crew.
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
• Typically reports to Professional Land Surveyor / Survey Manager.

The Party Chief will be responsible for activities that include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Download/Upload data collector on a daily basis.
• Prepare and maintain daily survey notes (per format), field book entries, cut sheets, raw data files, sketches and level notes.
• Perform field calculations, as needed.
Maintain open communication between field and office.
• Obtain signed Extra Work Ticket(s), as requested.
• Manage crew to ensure project is completed on time and within budget.

Technical Skills:
• Proficient in all survey instruments.
• Operation of Data Collector and their programs - Trimble, Carlson and TDS.
• Read and interpret plans, maps and drawings.
• Establishment of horizontal and vertical control.
• Construction Staking Standards.
• Topo and Aerial Survey Requirements.
• AutoCad C3D (Optional not necessary).

***Minimum 3 Years Experience as Land Surveyor/Party Chief
