There’s something about the Essex Memorial Day Parade that makes time slow down for a minute.

The sound of the drums echoing down Pearl Street. Little kids waving flags bigger than they are. Veterans standing tall while carrying memories most of us can’t even begin to understand.

Yesterday wasn’t just a parade. It was a reminder.

A reminder that behind every flag waving in the crowd is a freedom that came at a cost. Behind every moment of celebration is someone who never made it home.

Memorial Day is for them.
For the sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, friends, and neighbors who gave the ultimate sacrifice so the rest of us could live freely.

And while no words will ever feel like enough… we remember them. We honor them. And we thank them. Always. 🇺🇸❤️
