We are your preferred provider not your insurance company's preferred provider.
It is illegal, (yet done frequently) for your insurance company to steer you to or recommend their preferred providers. The decision of who you hire to restore your home or business is 100% yours. Your insurance company is contractually obligated to pay all reasonable incurred costs.
Keep in mind you should never for any insurance claim use your insurance companies preferred provider. They prioritize the insurance companies interests over yours. They are not the preferred provider because they do good work. They are the preferred provider because they will take direction from the insurance company and cut corners for the insurance company.
The main disadvantages of using your homeowner's insurance preferred provider are: potential for lower quality work due to cost-cutting measures, limited choice of contractors, a conflict of interest where the contractor prioritizes the insurance company over your needs, and the possibility of the contractor cutting corners to maintain their relationship with the insurer, potentially impacting the quality of repairs.
Key points about using a preferred provider:
Lower Quality Work:
Because preferred providers often work at discounted rates, they may be incentivized to cut corners on materials or workmanship to maintain profitability, impacting the quality of repairs.
Limited Choice:
Using a preferred provider means you are restricted to the contractors selected by your insurance company, potentially limiting your ability to find the best contractor for the job.
Conflict of Interest:
The contractor's primary focus may be on maintaining a good relationship with the insurance company, potentially leading them to prioritize the insurer's interests over your needs.
Pressure to Accept Lower Scope of Work:
The insurance company may dictate the scope of repairs, potentially leaving some necessary work undone to minimize costs.
Difficulty in Dispute Resolution:
If you have a disagreement with the preferred provider regarding the quality of work, it may be harder to resolve the issue due to their close relationship with the insurance company.
What to do before using a preferred provider:
Get multiple quotes:
Even if you choose to use a preferred provider, get quotes from other contractors for comparison to ensure you are getting a fair price.
Research the contractor:
Check the contractor's reputation and licensing information before committing to their services.
Understand the contract:
Carefully review the contract to ensure you are aware of all terms and conditions, including any limitations or exclusions.
Ask questions:
Don't hesitate to ask questions about the repair process, materials, and any potential concerns you may have.
