Only in Eugene. 🐌😂 While thousands of athletes are in town competing at the highest levels of track and field, another race was quietly taking place last weekend... and honestly, it might be the most Eugene event we've ever heard of.

More than 200 people gathered at a south Eugene farm for the 5th Annual Eugene Snail Race, where nearly 100 snails competed for glory, bragging rights, and a tiny snail-sized place in local history. 🏆 Participants brought their own racers (or adopted a loaner snail for the day), crowds gathered around a ping-pong table race course, and spectators cheered on competitors with names like Speedy Spencer and Siput, the eventual champion. 🎉

The tradition started when a local girl became fascinated with British snail racing during the pandemic and convinced her family to bring the quirky event to Eugene. Five years later, it's grown into a beloved community tradition that perfectly captures the creativity, humor, and connection that make Lane County such a special place to call home.

📊 Lane County Market Action | May 2026

The May numbers point to a market that's becoming more competitive than many people realize. 🏡 New listings were down 12% compared to last May, and pending sales were down 10%, but the gap between the two remains relatively tight. In other words, while fewer homes are hitting the market, buyers are still absorbing a large portion of what's available 💚.

What's especially noteworthy is that market time dropped from 61 days in April to just 53 days in May. That's a 13.1% improvement in a single month and a strong indication that well-positioned homes are finding buyers more quickly as we move deeper into the spring market 🌷. Despite the headlines, that's not the behavior of a market that's losing momentum.

At the same time, pricing remains remarkably stable. The average sale price climbed to $498,100, up 3.4% from last year, while the median sale price held steady at $446,400 📈. Even with fewer transactions overall, values continue to show resilience across Lane County.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that we're not seeing signs of a market correction or slowdown. Instead, we're seeing a market with less inventory, steady demand, and buyers who are still willing to compete for homes that are priced and presented well 🎯. For sellers, that means preparation and pricing strategy matter more than ever. For buyers, opportunities still exist, but the best homes aren't sitting around waiting for the market to change. The spring market still has plenty of energy behind it, and May's numbers suggest buyers are ready to act when the right home comes along 🏠.
