Did you hear that?
Is your house telling you something?
While sounds around the house are common (or even add character), there's a few you'll want to keep an ear out for:
🪟 Whistling Windows?
Likely a leak that will be costing you money. If you can find and fix, go ahead. Need help? Call a professional, it will cost less than the higher bills over time!
💧 Bubbling water heater noises?
Bubbling or cracking noises in gas-fired water heaters come from sediment in the bottom of the tank. Building up over time, if you hear these type of noises your tank may be nearing the end of it's life!
Draining your gas-fired tank every few months can help prevent buildup and extend your tank's life.
🔥 Clanking when turning on heat?
Normal the first time you fire up in the fall (or taps/clinks if you have baseboard heat), louder knocking and clanking sounds could be sign of trouble. Probably best to contact a HVAC tech sooner than later.
🐍 Hissing sounds?
If you don't own a snake, then it's most like related to your HVAC system. From a leak at the compressor (or among the radiators and air ducts), this is another one for a professional. If your home is natural gas, evacuate immediately upon the smell or sound of gas. Once safely away from the home, contact the gas company to help shut off the gas from their end!
