How's the market? September brought good news for buyers. Average home prices dipped in Evanston and Wilmette because inventory finally grew: Wilmette now has 36 homes for sale and Evanston has 97. If you can work with today's interest rates, you have more options than you've had in a long time.

Skokie moved the opposite way. Fewer homes were available than in August, and prices rose 5%.

September average home prices:
Skokie: $502,776
Evanston: $654,663
Wilmette: $1,154,500
