JUST CLOSED 🏡✨ — But This Closing Was About So Much More Than Selling a Home.
Some closings are transactions. Others remind you WHY you do what you do.
When I first met with my client, I didn’t start with, “What price do you want to list at?”
I asked:
“What is your goal? Do you want to sell the home, or would you rather keep it if you could?”
My client had recently lost their job and was struggling to keep up with the mortgage payments. They were beginning to fall behind.
Because of my 22+ years of experience in mortgage servicing, underwriting, quality control, and risk management, I knew we needed to have another conversation before putting the home on the market.
I asked, “Have you talked to your mortgage servicer about an unemployment forbearance?”
My client did—and was approved for a three-month forbearance.
So we paused.
They had time to breathe. Time to look for work. Time to determine what was best for them.
Three months later, I received the call:
“Shonda, I’m ready to list the home.”
And when they were ready, I was ready.
We developed the right listing strategy, sold the home, and helped my client move forward before their extended timeline became an even bigger concern.
This is why I’m not in real estate simply to sell houses.
Sometimes the best thing I can do is sell your home.
Sometimes the best thing I can do is tell you not to sell yet.
And sometimes, it’s knowing enough to ask the right question at the right time.
Real estate isn't just about property. It’s about people, purpose, and protecting your options.

Today, I’m celebrating my client and the successful sale of their home—but I’m even more grateful for the opportunity to have helped them navigate the why behind the sale.
When we first sat down to talk about listing their home, I didn’t start with, “What price do you want to list at?”
I asked my client a different question:
“What is your goal? Do you want to sell the home, or would you rather keep it if you could?”
Their answer was simple: “If I could keep my home, I would.”
My client had recently lost their job.
Because of my 22+ years of experience in mortgage servicing, underwriting, quality control, and risk management, I knew there was another conversation we needed to have.
I asked my client:

They were approved for a forbearance.
So we paused.
My client had time to breathe, look for work, and determine what was best for them.
Three months later, my phone rang.
“Shonda, I'm ready to list the home.”
We developed the right listing strategy, put the home on the market, and ultimately got it sold.
That is the part of real estate that means the most to me.
I’m not just here to sell houses, rather to help people make informed decisions about their homes, their finances, and their next chapter.
Yes, real estate is my profession. It is how I make a living.
But I will never believe that making a living means taking advantage of someone’s difficult situation.
Sometimes the most value, is simply knowing enough to ask the right questions.
My client was able to make the decision that was right for THEM, and when the time came to sell, they had someone in their corner who understood both the real estate side and the mortgage servicing side.
Today, I’m celebrating THEM. 🎉🏡
