How to Roundabout 🏎️

Roundabout instructions for Minnesota drivers, if MnDOT ever printed an actual manual, would probably read like this:

Step one: slow to a near stop fifty feet before an empty circle, for reasons nobody can fully explain, least of all the driver doing it.

Step two: enter with total conviction, then immediately second-guess that conviction halfway through, resulting in a full stop mid-circle while three other cars figure out what just happened.

Step three: signal for an exit that isn't the exit you're taking, because the blinker went on out of habit roughly one exit early and nobody bothered to correct it.

Step four: miss your actual exit anyway, and rather than admit it, just go around again like that was the plan the whole time.

Step five: exit finally, wave apologetically at absolutely no one in particular, and drive off completely convinced that went fine.

Minnesota built roundabouts to improve traffic flow. What it actually built was a small, polite demolition derby where everyone's too nice to admit they have no idea what they're doing.
