🚨 Rental Scam Warning – Fairbanks / North Pole 🚨
We’ve now been contacted by multiple people who were targeted by a rental scam using our company name, as well as other brokerages in town, without permission.
Just to be clear:
👉 Fairbanks Rental Properties, the property management arm of Hedgecock Group Real Estate, does NOT advertise rentals on Craigslist.
Any Craigslist listing claiming to represent us or our properties is not legitimate.
We want to help prevent others from being taken advantage of, so here are a few red flags we’re seeing with this scam:
🚩 Refusing to talk on the phone or meet in person
🚩 Avoiding video calls or live communication
🚩 Asking for money before you’ve seen the property
🚩 Pressuring you to “act fast” or send funds immediately
🚩 Using multiple brokerage names in the same listing
🚩 Communicating only by text or email and dodging verification
Another important note for Alaska renters:
📝 Any legitimate lease handled through a licensed real estate brokerage in Alaska includes a Real Estate Consumer Disclosure.
If you’re being asked to sign a lease or send money and that disclosure is never provided, that’s a major red flag.
Bottom line:
Please verify who you’re dealing with before sending money or personal information. Scammers often copy real listings and photos to look convincing.
