Plenty of our homes are 80, 90, even 100 years old. New construction in Arlington isn't in everyone's price point.

The real choice is often an older home that needs work, or driving much farther out than you wanted. I worked for a builder for three years, so I see both sides.

I recently helped a family relocating from Richmond who found the perfect house right down the street from grandma and grandpa in Fairfax Station. Only problem was a bunch of other buyers really wanted it too.

We ended up getting a little creative with the offer, and I stayed in close contact with the listing agent the whole way through. My buyers actually won at the original list price and still kept their inspection contingency, which really doesn't happen often in a market like this.
