You've probably heard the Fed is raising the Federal Funds Rate again. And if you're thinking about moving, that can feel a little scary. But there's a reason behind it. The Fed hikes the Federal Funds Rate to slow down inflation. And while the Federal Funds Rate isn’t the same thing as mortgage rates, a Fed hike can still push mortgage rates up for a while. But once inflation cools, mortgage rates will have room to come back down, and buyers will get some buying power back. So, yes. There’s some short-term pain happening right now. But the Fed is focused more on long-term gain as they try to get inflation down. And here’s what I want to be sure you know. The Fed doesn’t control mortgage rates. But there are more Fed hikes likely in the months ahead. That doesn’t necessarily mean mortgage rates will go up, but it’s possible. It all depends on where inflation and the situation overseas goes from here. I know the headlines are confusing – and I want to make sure you have the context you need. Your best bet is to make a plan that works at today's rates – not wait for them to go back down. Let's figure out what that looks like for you.
