A few tips:
• Gas is usually cheaper earlier in the week (Mon–Wed)
• Avoid highways—stations just a few blocks away are almost always cheaper
• Apps like GasBuddy can help you compare prices nearby in real time

In the DMV especially, prices can vary A LOT within just a couple miles.

Moral of the story: don’t just pull into the first station you see out of convenience… your wallet will notice the difference.

Tips for the DC Newbie (from a DC Newbie)

Before we get into this week’s tip, I want to introduce our new marketing intern, Nyx, who will be taking over Tips for the DC Newbie throughout the summer as they experience the DMV for the very first time! 🎉

One of the first things we agreed on? If you’re new to the area, public transportation apps will quickly become your best friend. Between the Metro, buses, and endless route combinations, apps like SmarTrip and Mapway make navigating the DMV so much easier.

You can favorite destinations, compare travel and arrival times, plan commutes, and avoid the chaos of trying to figure everything out through regular map apps alone. Adding your metro card directly to the app also makes hopping on and off transit way more convenient.

As Nyx gets settled into DMV life, these are definitely going to be essentials. 🚆📍
