Attention: For those who had Ms. Jane Sheffey for 5th/6th grade at Bailey's Elementary School. Ms. Sheffey passed away last month. She was 91 years old. I remember Ms. Sheffey being such a positive role model and influence for myself and many other students at Bailey's. She encouraged us all to do our best in school and always exemplified intelligence, class, and style. After elementary school, our relationship continued as our families became friends. We kept in touch for over 50 years. I always enjoyed meeting the "Bailey's Bunch" (Bailey's former staff and teachers) with my mother for holiday lunches, brunches, and other gatherings. We even attended her husband, Major General Fred Sheffey's ceremony as the first African American officer to command Fort Lee, VA, Quartermaster Training Command, and the Quartermaster School. He was among only a handful of black generals in the Army at that time and preceded her death in 2000. Ms. Sheffey will be missed. Funeral services are Saturday, January 7th at Howell Funeral Home, 10220 Guilford Road, Jessup, MD 20794. Viewing - 2:00 PM. Services - 3:00 PM. https://g.co/kgs/KB7qcZ
