Happy New Years! Lets make 2024 the best year ever!
Together we all can make improvements (no one is perfect), Changes I personally want to focus on in 2024:
Mind - Read more and improve my knowledge in all aspects of life. Alexander Pope once said "A little learning is a dangerous thing"
Body - Truly focus on a healthy and happy ME. A week mind can break a strong body. Working on mind and body go hand in hand.
Spirit - This one is a big one for me, growing up church and the lord was a large part of my upbringing. I have always tried to walk a path the lord would be proud of. I have had my ups and downs, made mistakes (again, no one is perfect) but I have re-gained focus! I don't pressure anyone to go to church or read the bible, BUT I can tell you for me personally a renewed interest in faith has already had positive changes in my life.
This morning deciding how to put my thoughts out there for friends and family to see I came across a post from Gettysburg Performance Gym, I strongly consider giving it a read and truly reflect on what was written.
Changes can be made in all aspects of life- Mind, Body, and Spirit.
Sorry, you’re not going to get a huge New Year push out of us to get you super excited to make a whole new you in 24. (Admittedly the recent “Big Fitness Energy” marketing from PF is pretty funny though.)
Bettering yourself doesn’t come from proclaiming some resolution. It takes long-term consistent changes. It’s easy to get excited and come for the first few weeks of January only to settle back to old ways.
Hopefully the following might help you succeed if you are wanting to use the (any) gym as a component of your desired change.
1. Have a plan, set priorities. If gym time isn’t prioritized, it’s not going to suddenly make new room on your schedule.
2. Set realistic expectations. Don’t start from zero to 5,6,7 days a week. Ease in and take on something that’s manageable.
3. Be patient. I always ask clients to give it 8-10 weeks before feeling or seeing any true progress. That said, you will likely begin feeling more energy and enjoying the post-workout boosts within the first couple of weeks.
4. If your goal is to lose body fat, burning calories and building muscle certainly helps, but the primary contributor to body fat loss is diet. This doesn’t have to be drastic either, start with small changes (drink a glass of water before you eat, try intermittent eating /fasting windows, lower sugar intake, to name a few).
5. This is important. You need to WANT to do this - all of it. You can’t just want the results. If you approach this like it all sucks and you hate that you have to do it then you’re setting yourself up for failure. It’s a mental shift of bettering yourself, not hateful changes that you are begrudgingly making. Enjoy it.
If you feel like you’re in a place to make the mental shift in order to get healthier, then a gym can definitely help. I hope you choose GPG.
If you’re not ready to prioritize quite yet, no problem, but I suggest you saving your money for now and making small changes at home and progress into the gym as you continue to make those positive changes.
Happy New Year. Here’s to a great 24.
