2021: Sheared 23 acres of Eastern red cedar (monoculture)

Patience with fire. It gets frustrating and folks get impatient wanting to burn ASAP and put themselves and others in bad spots by burning in unsafe conditions. We picked good ventilation, we have safe green firebreaks, and a good back burn. A solid plan creates a successful safe fire

Thanks to Randy Russell for this great idea for using cattle panels to preserve my rock. Rock ain't free! It's held up to a lot of water this spring! What a simple and cost effective way to save a Crossing!

Thank you for providing Bigtooth aspen! Native to my area! Want to make very clear I knew my order was being shipped at a certain time so were all good! So pleaae dont take it the wrong way!

Anyway, my tree planting prep is not quite ready due to weather so Ill show how to heal in trees till you're ready! Simple!

1) dig a hole
2) throw trees in hole
3l cover with dirt
4) add water
5) wait

So don't panic just improvise! Thanks for watching!

Year 3 for this short native mix. It's done well for use to being a food plot 😂 As we perform an early growing season fire on this stand it will be interesting to see the change in plant community

Disturbance for successful habitat management is essential. Weather burning, discing, spraying, or maybe a chainsaw all of it leads to disturbance that encourages our next growing community that benefits

I love a good spring burn, but what if it's holding back my that provides that critical browse and and brooding Habitat? Im willing to try different burns at different times. Critical information of humidity, wind, ventilation rates are critical for successful burns at different times of year. All we can do is try.

125 acre farm consisting of prairie, timber, excellent hunting Jefferson County

$937500 ($7500/acre)

Located south west of Fairfield, Iowa lays an ideal farm for anyone whose a passionate conservationist, hunter, or someone wanting to escape to the country and build a home.

This beautiful farm has several fields enrolled into the Conservation Recovery Program (CRP). CRP is a federal program that offers annual payments ranging from 10-15 years. The program is eligible mostly for below average farm ground. In exchange, our native prairie plants such as Bigblue stem, Indian grass, and a variety of our native forbs (prairie flowers; are planted to create wildlife habitat and bio-diversity.

In the central part of the farm lays an unique crescent moon hay field with thick grass and alfalfa. The alfalfa presents as an opportunistic food plot during those early and mid season archery hunts. This crescent moon hay field would be ideal for a local farmer to cut hay. At the north east tip of this crescent moon field is a 1.5 acre food plot with an elevated blind. The food plot was drilled with a diverse fall food plot mix consisting of winter oats, wheat, rye, peas, radish, and crimson clover. The plot was drilled on 9/1/2025. The area is in a dry spell so with some rain the food plot will be gorgeous. This plot mix is ideal for all seasons archery into the gun seasons.

North of the crescent moon hay field is a 1.25 bottom food plot. This plot was drilled the same day as the north plot with the same mix with added white clover. The white clover will make this plot shine on this bottom soil type. Another great spot for early and mid archery seasons and sometimes into the gun seasons!

The west side of the farm has an acre field that would be an ideal food plot. The field has timber surrounding the plot, a stocked pond to the east, and a blind at the entrance of the potential plot.

Along the south west corner of the fields is another gate to the road with a shed. The shed would be useful for parking a vehicle out of the sun under the lean too and storing hunting gear, tools, and small equipment inside. This shed sits on just under an acre field. This spot would be ideal for building a home or a hunting cabin.

The west side of the property consists of a diverse timber. The timber connects too all the food plots and along the property line. The timber consists of black walnuts, oaks, hickories, elm, basswood, and hackberries. This timber tracts offers excellent hunting opportunities for multiple different winds. This draw is also adorned with massive "wolf oaks". Wolf oaks describe massive oak trees with broad trunks and wild canopies. These wolf oaks are Iowa's native Bur Oaks. These massive bur oaks are priceless for their wildlife value in providing acorns for all wildlife. These bur oaks provide a future opporunity for more bur oak propagation also their massive canopies offer perfect roosting for turkeys.
