Only two weeks to go! We want to make sure residents and visitors are well aware of the following road closures and detours coming during the 𝟓𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐩 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥, taking place October 8–11.

➡️ 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟱 (𝗮𝘁 𝟱 𝗮.𝗺.):
• West Gulf Place parking lot will be closed.
• Hwy 59 will close southbound at intersection of East & West 1st Ave.
• West Beach Boulevard will close at West 4th Street, but West 4th Street will remain open as an alternate route to the beach highway.
• East Beach Boulevard will close from Highway 59 to East 2nd Street.
• East 1st Street will be closed between East Beach Boulevard and East 1st Avenue.

Because sometimes the interest rate isn’t the only number that matters. 📉

A lower rate sounds great — but if you’re competing against multiple buyers, you could be facing:

There's a new restaurant in Gulf Shores that you could easily assume is simply a place to grab lunch while visiting the zoo.

It isn't.

Safari & Vine opened in 2026 on the grounds of the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo at 20499 Oak Road East, but the restaurant is open to everyone. Zoo admission is not required to eat there.

The people behind it may already sound familiar to Baldwin County food lovers.

Safari & Vine is owned and operated by Pam McLaurin-Lee and Chef Rich Lee, the same team behind Portabella's in Foley. Instead of duplicating their Italian concept, they went in a completely different direction.

And I mean completely different.

The menu draws inspiration from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, South America and Australia. The South Baldwin Chamber highlighted dishes including Peri-Peri wings, ahi poke bowls, North African-spiced flatbreads, carnitas chilaquiles and chargrilled lamb lollipops.

But one menu item has a particularly interesting Alabama connection.

The restaurant offers its signature burger with a choice of beef, black bean or locally sourced shark. According to the Chamber's profile of the restaurant, the shark comes from Gulf waters through Alabama's only federally licensed charter permitted to catch and process shark for research purposes.

There's also weekend brunch, outdoor patio seating and a private dining room.

The concept officially celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting in May 2026.

I love finding places like this because Gulf Shores has plenty of restaurants where you already know exactly what you'll find on the menu.

A globally inspired restaurant sitting inside zoo property?

That's definitely not one of them.

🛑 Don’t automatically assume something is wrong with it!

Sometimes, a home sitting on the market can actually create an opportunity for buyers.

Here’s why:

💰 There may be more room to negotiate
The seller may be more open to price adjustments, closing costs, repairs, or other concessions.

🔎 You may have less competition
A home that’s been sitting could mean fewer buyers are fighting over it.

🏠 The seller may be more motivated
After 30+ days, the seller may be ready to make a deal—especially if they’ve already made a move or have another home waiting.

🛠️ You may be able to negotiate repairs
Instead of walking away because you see a few things that need updating, those items could become part of the negotiation.

📉 Price reductions can create opportunity
A property that started too high may eventually reach a price point that makes more sense.

The key? Don’t just look at DOM (Days on Market). Look at WHY it’s still available!

Sometimes the house everyone else passed on is the one worth taking a second look at. 👀
