Closing costs are the fees that come with buying a home, on top of the price of the home itself — things like lender and title fees, recording fees, and prepaid taxes and insurance. They catch a lot of first-time buyers by surprise, but they shouldn't. Ask your lender for an estimate early, so you know the full picture before you make an offer.
