The Sterling Nature Center, in Sterling NY, is a roosting and feeding resource for migrating monarch butterflies. On Sunday, September 6, from 11am to 1pm, the Center is holding a workshop on the life cycle and migration patterns of monarchs. Learn how to identify monarchs and determine their gender. The group will move outdoors in the field, weather permitting, for a demonstration of netting and tagging. Participation is limited. Please email the center at [email protected] to reserve a spot.
Sterling Nature Center, 15730 Jensvold Rd, Sterling, NY 13156, offers year-round programs and events along the shore of Lake Ontario. From guided nature walks and wildlife programs to seasonal events and workshops, there are many ways to explore and learn.
The Center is a 1 hour, 15 minute drive from Fairport.

The Crescent Trail Hiking Association is a nonprofit organization of volunteers who lead free, monthly guided hikes as well as help develop and maintain the Crescent Trail footpaths in Fairport. The monthly hikes are rarely canceled for weather and meet various skill levels and age groups.

On Sunday, August 9 at 1:30pm, join the group as they hike the relatively new trail from Spring Lake Park to Linear Park (Channing Philbrick) in Penfield. This hike is an out and back. Meet at the parking lot at the bottom of the hill at Spring Lake Park; type “Spring Lake Park” in your GPS for directions.

A group of maintenance volunteers, “The Silver Foxes”, clear downed trees, mow and trim the trails, place signage and build and repair bridges and structures. To learn more about The Silver Foxes, and perhaps volunteer, check out this link:
