Apparently our bee house is now a rental property too. 🐝😂
Last year, we had the sweetest little colony of bees. They were big, fat, friendly girls who spent the summer making the most incredible honey. We loved them. They tolerated us. It was a beautiful relationship.
Then winter came. They ate every last drop of their honey—which, fair enough, they made it—and sometime this spring, most of them disappeared. We think mites may have gotten into the hive, but whatever happened, we were left with a very empty little bee house.
Until some squatters found it.
A rogue colony of bees apparently stumbled upon a fully furnished, move-in-ready home in the woods and thought, Oh, perfect.
No application.
No security deposit.
No background check.
They just moved in.
And these are NOT our former sweet, chunky girls. 😂 These bees are smaller. Scrappier. And frankly, a little mean.
Ross has been stung several times and has learned that while we may technically own the property, they have established very clear boundaries regarding their portion of it.
But here’s the crazy part: they’re thriving.
They started as a little rogue band, and every week there seem to be more of them. They’re making honey, filling the hive, and apparently raising an entire bee civilization back there.
Last night we walked out and found THIS. 😳🐝
So, for now, the newest residents of Whitetail & Pine are doing quite well.
