FYI for Layton residents
The U.S. Air Force is offering free indoor air sampling to homes and businesses near areas of groundwater contamination from Hill Air Force Base. Testing is the only way to know if potentially harmful vapors from the groundwater could be entering homes or workplaces. If you receive a postcard, your location is eligible, and participation is strongly encouraged by the Air Force, EPA, and UDEQ.
Eligible residents and business owners can now schedule sampling appointments online (URL on postcard) or request sampling by contacting the project manager listed below.
Hill AFB offers two sampling placement options (please indicate your preference when signing up):
• Technician-placed sampling, where a trained technician places the pencil-sized, passive device in the lowest livable space in the home.
• Resident-placed sampling, where residents place the device themselves with step-by-step instructions for a contact-free experience.
Sampling begins in October and runs through March 2026. All testing and potential mitigation efforts are completely paid for by the Air Force.
If the test indicates the presence of chemical vapors associated with Hill AFB above established action levels, the Air Force will take action to prevent these vapors from entering the building at no cost to home or property owners. The city drinking water has not been affected by the contamination.
For more information, including a letter from the Air Force, EPA, and UDEQ, and maps of areas eligible for sampling, visit www.hill.af.mil/Home/Environmental/IAP. Please contact Julie McNeill, the Indoor Air Sampling Project Manager, at 801-586-2194 or [email protected], to request sampling or if you have any questions about Hill AFB’s indoor air sampling program.
