The fun fact: The Broadleaf wrappers used on the Umbagog are the same type of to***co intended for the Mi Querida, but they were rejected only because they weren’t visually attractive enough—they had too many veins, wrinkles, or cosmetic imperfections. Flavor-wise, they were still excellent. Rather than waste them, Saka built an entirely new cigar around them.
* Why it’s called “Umbagog”: It’s named after Lake Umbagog, a wilderness lake on the New Hampshire–Maine border where Steve Saka loves to fish. The name comes from the Abenaki language and means “shallow water.” The cigar was intentionally designed as a rugged, no-nonsense smoke you can enjoy while mowing the lawn, fishing, hiking, or working outside—not a delicate “special occasion” cigar.
