John had boldly condemned Herod's unlawful marriage to Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. Herod arrested John, intending to silence him but feared killing him due to John's popularity as a prophet. During Herod's birthday celebration, Herodias's daughter danced and pleased Herod, prompting him to promise her anything she wished. Influenced by her mother, she asked for John the Baptist's head on a platter. Despite his distress, Herod ordered John's ex*****on to honor his promise.
