šØ Whatās happening near the Cliffdale Landfill? šØ
Fayetteville friends ā this is something many residents are understandably asking questions about right now.
š Methane detectors have been placed in homes near the Cliffdale Landfill after elevated gas levels were detected. One home on Leslie Drive has reported three alarm activations, leading to evacuations and ongoing uncertainty for the family.
š§Ŗ According to information shared at a recent community meeting, hazardous gases detected near the landfill have:
⢠Exceeded North Carolinaās cancer-risk thresholds for indoor air
⢠In some cases, reached levels that could pose an explosion risk
š The NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) is actively investigating:
⢠Methane alarms + soil-gas probes installed at 37 nearby properties
⢠Additional soil-gas sampling and lab analysis underway
⢠A public report is expected in the coming months
ā³ Until then, affected families are waiting for answers ā and understandably concerned about safety and next steps.
If you live nearby, are considering buying or selling in the area, or just want to stay informed, this is definitely something to keep an eye on. Knowledge matters, especially when it comes to our homes and our health. š¬
