🏠🎨 Choosing the Right Paint Sheen Made Simple!

The rule of thumb: higher sheen = more shine, durability, and easier cleaning. But—more shine also means imperfections are easier to spot and can cost more per gallon.

✨ High Gloss – Ultra shiny, super durable, great for cabinets, trim, and doors, but too reflective for most walls.

💧 Semi-Gloss – Resists moisture and stains, perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and busy trim areas.

🌟 Satin – Velvety look, easy to clean, ideal for high-traffic spaces like family rooms or hallways—just watch out for visible brush strokes.

🥚 Eggshell – Low shine, hides wall flaws, great for dining and living rooms.

🖤 Flat/Matte – No shine, best coverage, hides imperfections, but tough to clean—good for low-traffic adult spaces.

**Tip:** Darker colors have more colorant, making them shinier—drop down a sheen level if you want a softer look. Also, higher sheen = higher price per gallon.

🔥 Summer’s heating up, and so are electricity bills! The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts a hotter-than-average summer for much of the U.S., while electricity prices are reaching record highs. The average electric bill from June to September 2025 is expected to hit 787,upfrom737 last year.

Don’t sweat the cost—cool down your home and your bills with these simple tips:

1️⃣ Use electricity during off-peak hours when rates are lower.
2️⃣ Set your thermostat between 70–78°F when home, and 78°F when away—each degree higher can save you about 3% off your bill.
3️⃣ Keep fridges & freezers at recommended temps to avoid overworking them.
4️⃣ Make sure HVAC condensers are clear of debris for efficient cooling.
5️⃣ Close blinds/curtains during the day to block out heat, and open windows at night if air quality allows.
6️⃣ Properly seal doors and windows to keep cool air in.
7️⃣ Use ceiling or floor fans—you’ll feel cooler without lowering the temp.
8️⃣ Change AC air filters monthly in summer.
9️⃣ Schedule HVAC maintenance before summer.
🔟 Switch to cellular shades for windows to reduce solar heat by up to 60%.
1️⃣1️⃣ Run dehumidifiers in damp rooms to feel cooler.
1️⃣2️⃣ Let smart thermostats automate your AC setting for greater efficiency.
1️⃣3️⃣ Boost your attic insulation.
1️⃣4️⃣ Upgrade to energy-efficient HVAC or AC systems, or consider a heat pump.
1️⃣5️⃣ Add exterior shading like awnings or plant shade trees outside sunny windows.

⚡️ Watch out for “phantom energy”—devices left plugged in can account for up to 20% of your bill! Unplug what you’re not using, or use a power strip or smart plug to shut multiple devices off at once.

Making your home more energy efficient isn’t just good for your wallet and comfort—it can also add value if you decide to sell. Stay cool and save money this summer!
