There are changes happening in the Real Estate Industry! 💥
I spent some time this week getting familiar with some of the new policies that will be going into effect the end of next week. Here are the big take aways:

💫 Commission will no longer be advertised on the MLS or any 3rd party platform that uses the MLS. This really brings it back to the buyers best interest. Without advertising the commission on the MLS it prevents agents from steering buyers to homes where they will profit from a higher commission. Though, this shouldn't happen at all, it can. At the end of the day, our job is to support our clients best interest, right?

💫 A signed agency agreement is now required with a buyer prior to showing of a home. This can be alarming for buyers. I just met you and I have to sign something to work with you? This really comes down to information. At first meeting, agents should put their best foot forward, be transparent, and educate potential clients on fair housing and the home buying process. Wouldn't you feel more comfortable signing into an agreement with a well informed, honest and competent agent?

💫 Seller Cooperative Commission is no longer required. But, that does not mean it's not negotiable. This just gives the buyer and the seller the ability to negotiate agent commission in the purchase offer. Education on both sides-the seller and the buyer agents will help both parties be able to make an informed decision before executing a contract.

The GSAR has announced the nominees for 3 empty member seats and our very own Sarah Holbrook at Weichert, Realtors - The Bollinger Group is one of the nominees. Sarah is not only a great Realtor, but she is also an active member of local real estate committees and President elect of the Women's Council of Realtors Greater Syracuse.. She is also a wonderful mother to her kids and part of their school's HSA. Her commitment to the community and her kids are some of the reasons we think she is a great person to join the GSAR Board of Directors.

Voting opens online to all realtors part of the GSAR Thursday, August 29 and ends Wednesday, September 4. We would love to see Sarah be a member of the GSAR Board of Directors, so please vote for her when voting opens.
