| Operation Speed Kills 2026: Know the Limit. |
Local law enforcement agencies are joining efforts to address the growing concern of careless and reckless driving along the Interstate 295 corridor, an issue that continues to put motorists’ lives at risk.
On Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. members of the Fayetteville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Fort Bragg Military Police, and Fayetteville State University Police joined forces to save lives along Interstate 295.
As a result of the six and half hour-long joint initiative, 131 citations were issued for the following violations:
• 120 Speeding Violations (All speeding violations were 80-mph or more in a 65-mph posted speed limit zone.)
• Safe Movement/ Failure to Move Over violations
• Careless and Reckless (C&R)
• No Operators License (NOL)
• Driving with License Revoked (DWLR)
• Regulatory Violations
• No insurance
• One arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
• One warrant obtained for Felony Flee to Elude
This initiative is about prevention, aiming to reduce dangerous driving behaviors such as excessive speeding, aggressive lane changes, distracted driving, and failure to obey traffic laws.
The I-295 corridor is a heavily traveled route used daily by commuters, commercial vehicles, and families. Recent incidents and traffic complaints have highlighted the need for increased enforcement and public awareness to prevent serious crashes and save lives.
By working together across jurisdictions, we are sending a clear message that unsafe driving will not be tolerated along the I-295 corridor.
Law enforcement officials urge all drivers to slow down, remain attentive, and obey traffic laws. Safe driving not only protects individual motorists but also helps ensure the safety of everyone sharing the road.
