In partnership with the City of Fernandina Beach, Amelia River Cruises is excited to announce the new "Egan's Creek Pedestrian Tunnel." This new attraction will run from the Egan's Creek Kayak Launch, beneath the waterline, to the Fort Clinch Inlet Viewing Area.
This bold investment in eco‑forward waterfront innovation will allow residents and visitors to safely experience dolphins, alligators, mink, Eastern cottonmouth and other local wildlife in their natural habitat. "The project is made possible by a large surplus discovered in the Code Enforcement Department and will not affect taxes, utility rates, or the price of shrimp tacos." Parking at Egan's Creek Park, they note, will
remain free (for now).
Construction begins immediately after the demolition of Brett's Waterway Café, with city engineers confirming, "the repurposed pylons and support beams will be more than adequate for underwater pedestrian traffic, seasonal tides, tropical storms, and the occasional rogue manatee." Along with "Brett's Bricks", other items planned for the gift shop include waterproof postcards, short-term oxygen masks with mini tanks, creek-scented candles (think swamp marsh and low tide), a Tunnel Emergency coloring book, and more!
Amelia River Cruises will proudly offer narrated tunnel tours and wildlife sightseeing. The tunnel will feature 360° underwater viewing, drinking fountains using "filtered" Egan's Creek water sponsored by "Friends of Brackish Water", a selfie station, and innovative creek-cooled air conditioning. These are all designed to enhance the visitor experience and "support the City's commitment to environmental stewardship, tourism growth, and creative spending."
