Fire Prevention Week: A Fall Home Safety Checklist

It is Fire Prevention Week — a good excuse to run this checklist before furnace season kicks in.
Test every smoke and carbon monoxide detector and replace batteries if it has been a year. Have your furnace or heating system inspected before the first cold snap. Clear anything flammable at least three feet from space heaters and furnace vents. And walk your family through your fire escape plan — not just talk about it, actually walk it.
Ten minutes now beats a bad surprise in January.
