New York State has launched a Private Well PFAS Testing and Mitigation Rebate Pilot Program to help residents test their well water for PFAS, often called “forever chemicals.”

Homeowners in Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Putnam, and Westchester counties may qualify for free testing and rebates for water treatment systems if PFAS is found in their well water. These chemicals can persist in the environment and may pose health risks, which is why testing is important for households that rely on private wells. (New York State Department of Health)
