Hurricane Helene caused massive damage to electric infrastructure throughout the state and may be the worst storm in LECβs history. At its peak, approximately 98% of our service territory lost power, including outages at the transmission level. The recovery will be long and challenging. Many members will be without power for hours or days.
All hands are on deck, and we are arranging shifts so crews, member service representatives, and other personnel can work non-stop during this emergency. We are also working on securing additional crews outside the path of the storm to help in restoration efforts.
If members have already reported an outage, we ask that they PLEASE DON'T REPORT IT AGAIN as our communication lines could overload.
Once Duke's transmission lines are brought back online, we can begin restoration efforts in our area. Crews will first travel to substations to make repairs, then distribution lines, tap lines (which deliver power to transformers), then individual service lines that run between the transformer and the home. Each situation will be different, making it nearly impossible to predict restoration times. Our linemen must also navigate roadways blocked by fallen trees.
We thank our community for standing with us during this difficult time.
