Dear Guests of the Whale Watch,

Patricia and I came down from the great white north on a new adventure 25 years ago. We wanted to run a small motel and retire. We bought one on the golf coast, remodeled that and flipped it, bought an apartment complex and flipped it and found the Whale Watch.
We went from property flippers to motel on the ocean owners, our ultimate goal. Fell in love with the place and became motel owners again. I don't regret anything, we have had so many great guests, marriages, families growing up and having new families, and still visiting.
We never listed the Motel for sale, but had investors offer us enough money to continue our journey into old life. I can't imagine being 95 with a walker helping guests with luggage.
We are sad, and will miss our guests, many like family, but moving on to the next phase of life.
Thank y'all for 20 years of good memories.
Feel free to post here for now, not sure of the future of the site, but can reach me at:
[email protected] to send notes and thoughts. Love ya!

Hey all, we rode the storms out, and no significant damage (besides cosmetics). Our beach is still the nicest on Flagler Beach. Thanks for your thoughts!

an interview:

Question:

"What are you doing to make weekends feel different than weekdays during this corovirus time to help your mental health?"

Answer:

We are in the Hospitality industry, and our hours are 9am-9pm. Having thought about this, we are willing to forgo the extra 4 hours a day, as we are not always busy all twelve hours a day (but we are on call) and should feel blessed to work here.

So, 52 week-ends a year we don't get, and multiply it by 2 days in a week-end.

That's 104 days. Add two weeks vacation pay, and 10 paid holidays off.

128 days. Multiply that for 20 years “Time off” and you get 2,560 days.
Divide that by 365, and that’s 7 years of Week-ends, Vacations, and holidays we have worked without down time pay.

Yeah, the beach is nice, but 7 years of lost time off has been a sacrifice.

Long answer to your question, what are week-ends and why would they feel different, except more busy?

Life isn't greener, thanks for your support!

Good morning!

Sorry to take so long to reply, maybe we wouldn't have had so many calls asking how we fared!
We didn't lose a shingle! We were back and running in 1 day!
(Wish we hadn't evacuated and spent $650 for 4 nights).
Oh well, better safe than sorry!
