Cleaning up, showing up. 🚮 💚

Our crews were back at it near Hardenbrook Park, clearing debris from a spot that needed attention. This work is part of a larger effort to support the neighborhood: demolition, dumping prevention, and the goats clearing buckthorn.

The goal is simple: a cleaner, safer park space for the residents who live nearby. That is what this work is for.

Community partners, community transformation. On Bonbright, multiple properties are coming together to create something new for the neighborhood.

One property was foreclosed in 2023 and sold to Communities First Inc in 2024. Next door, another property was foreclosed in 2021 and slated for ARPA demolition, but CFI stepped in and purchased it in 2025 before demolition could take place. The acquisition allowed them to use time-sensitive grant funding to clean up both properties and transform the former blighted structures into a playground.

Just down the street, another property was never in Land Bank inventory, but the owner has invested heavily in it, adding to the growing momentum in this north of downtown neighborhood.

This is what happens when community partners, residents, and the Land Bank work together.

A great turnout at Hardenbrook Park. 🐐

The goats returned for a Meet the Goats event, and the community showed up. Neighbors toured the grazing site, asked questions, and saw firsthand how the goats are helping restore Flint's green spaces.

The event was a chance to celebrate the work happening at Hardenbrook Park (historically Jackson Park). Over the summer, the goats have been clearing invasive buckthorn, opening up the space for the Flint Jackson Park Youth League and the surrounding neighborhood.

Thank you to everyone who came out, asked questions, and took photos. And thank you to the goats for your amazing grazing!

Side Lot Success 🌱

Through our Lots Available program, GCLBA makes vacant residential lots available to adjacent homeowners. Over the years we have seen some amazing side lot transformations.

Check out this transformation from blighted structure to thriving garden and hoop house.

🏚️ GCLBA received the structure after tax foreclosure in 2012.
🔨 The structure was demolished in Summer 2014.
🌿 The neighbor purchased it as a side lot in Spring 2015.
🌸 Today, it is a thriving garden and hoop house spanning two additional lots.

Do you own a home adjacent to a Land Bank vacant lot? You could qualify for a side lot purchase and make your own transformation.
