The average person when buying a house gets a 30 year mortgage! I was no different July 2, 1990! Divorced with 2 children, I promised my Lender that I would NEVER be late on making my payments if this worked out. Well, the Underwriters kept giving me a hard time which I felt they were discriminating against me being Divorced. I got DETERMINED and called our Senator at that time which was Senator Strom Thurmond. I spoke to his Assistant, Chappie McKay and explained my dilemma. By the way interest rates back then were high but I was getting a State Loan program with a 5% interest rate that was about to run out so TIME WAS OF ESSENCE! A few days later Frankie Pigate from P*e Dee Stare Bank ( my Lender) called me to tell me as she was laughing, that I GOT MY LOAN! She said, " Fran, you had heads rolling ". I was working for a CPA at the time and surely was not a Realtor so did not know what I know now. What I DO KNOW is:
1. After having to refinance twice over the years it sets you back longer to pay it off!
2. I was NEVER LATE one time during the whole term!
3. It may have taken me 35 years and 30 days BUT TODAY
JULY 31st, 2025 I officially PAID MY MORTGAGE OFF ALL BY MYSELF! I have had wonderful clients who trusted me to sell their homes or get me to help them buy one being a Realtor all these years. The past few transactions I put all my commission checks to this Mortgage with one GOAL of being DONE ! Thank you to my clients! This is how I make a living.
I walked into my Broker's office several months ago and told him what I wanted to do. He encouraged me and said, you WILL do this by the end of the year. Now he said, I did not know it would happen this fast. Set GOALS, be DETERMINED and IT WILL HAPPEN, EVENTUALLY! I now can say, "I OWN MY CHEROKEE COTTAGE"!❤️🤗👍
