Many people think that once they are pre-approved for a mortgage and are under contract for a home that they are good to go. That’s not the case. The mortgage lender will check the buyers credit again right before closing and if there’s any new credit applications it could prevent the loan from going through. Don’t make any large purchases or any that require credit until after you close on your home, this includes furniture that all home buyers are eager to get before moving in!

While putting 20% down when purchasing a home does help you save on PMI, it’s not mandatory. Many people, especially first time home buyers, think that’s it’s a requirement to put down 20% when buying a home but statistics show that hasn’t been the norm in many years.
