Yesterday, I attended our Oak Cliff Area Meeting where Kita Sawyer, former President & CEO of Klyde Warren Park, shared some incredible insights about one of Dallas' most recognizable gathering places.

A few things that stood out to me:

• Klyde Warren Park has inspired more than 70 parks across the country built over highways to reconnect communities.

• The park welcomes around 1.5 million visitors each year.

• It isn't funded by the City of Dallas' operating budget. It's operated by the nonprofit Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation and supported through memberships, events, food trucks, restaurants, and community partnerships.

• With more than 30 rotating food trucks and events happening throughout the year from movie nights and salsa dancing to fitness classes and concerts...there's always something going on.

• And here's one I never knew...you can actually sponsor a song, and the fountain will dance to it! 🎶⛲


One of the biggest takeaways for me was hearing how a single park has helped reconnect neighborhoods while becoming a destination that other cities now study and learn from.
