Well tomorrow is day #2 as a substitute teacher! This time it is second grade. I've been sick in bed most of the time since I had the 5th graders last week. Coincidence?

The teacher left me detailed instructions, which really comforts the OCD side of me. But I'm about to go to bed and once again a thousand questions are racing through my head. There are some very important things the teacher left out of her notes. So instead of sleeping, I find myself up and down, Googling things like, can a second grader tie their own shoes? Do second graders understand jokes or should I not even try? What should you do if a second graders starts crying? How long can a second grader go without the need to p*e? What should you do if a second grader laughs at you? What should you do if an entire second grade class starts crying? Or Laughing? Can second graders smell fear? Do second graders hunt in packs? OMG, don't know if I'll sleep but I have to get to bed! Can second graders infiltrate your dreams???

I want to thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. Substituting was an experience that I would have a hard time explaining here. In just one day there were several times when I was really uncomfortable and of course other times when it felt really good, But I would like to share with you just one moment that really made me laugh.

So I’m in the classroom at about 2pm and I’ve gotten to know the kids as well as I can in one day. Suddenly a phone rings. I hadn’t even noticed that there was a landline in the room and it had a funny ring. So the kids got my attention and let me know the phone was ringing. So I’m like, “okay, where is it?” And they point and I go to answer. I think they thought, wow this guy didn’t even know the phone was ringing and now he doesn’t know where it is?! On top of that, when I picked it up, the cord was tangled into a pretty tight knot. So I am fumbling with the cord trying to untangle it so I can find out who’s calling. Well it took long enough that one of the kids says, “hey Mr. C, you know you’re supposed to put that thing up to your ear, right?”

So of course then I had to explain to the school nurse why I’m laughing so hard when I finally answered the phone (maybe you had to be there).

OMG! So tomorrow is my first day as a substitute teacher! Something opened up at a school near me for kindergarten. It seemed like a good way to ease into it. So I accepted the assignment and immediately started freaking out. After 30 minutes Arwi was able to talk me off the ledge and finally convinced me it would be fun! Five minutes later the school principal called me and asked me to sub in their 5th grade instead. Now I'm freaking out all over again. Wish me luck and/or please say a prayer for me!

This is one of those days when I could expect a call from dad. The conversation would go something like this:

Dad: How you doing kid?

Me: Doing all right, how about you?

Dad: Okay. What's the weather like down there?

Me: Not sure exactly, kind of cold 38, 39 something like that.

Dad: 47 here, warmer here than it is there I guess.

Me: Thanks Dad, lol.

Miss those calls. I knew exactly where he was going when he said how's the weather...
