Where else on Folly Island can you dine alfresco in the trees?! It’s an amazing experience!! These are some pics I just took above our deck. I can almost touch the limbs 💕 This lovely oak also provides a bit of shade during the daytime. We offer a gas grill to make the most of this memory!

For our last post, we’re dreaming of summer and heading to the beach! Folly Beach pier and pavilion once stood where the Tides Hotel and Folly Beach Pier stands today: where Center Street dead ends into the beach. It first opened there in the 1930s but burned down in 1957. This location seen in the image opened in 1960 as Ocean Plaza, and had concession stands, a boardwalk, amusement park rides, carnival games, and a skating rink. Over the next two decades, pieces slowly closed before it ultimately burned down in 1977. Today, the recently re-built Folly Beach pier is operated by Charleston County Parks and open to the public!

This image can be found in our Folly Beach Research collection.

Throughout the fall, we threw it back on Thursdays with our series. We found images of favorite restaurants, local spots, and hang outs from across the state to take you back.
