At 0930 hours on April 4, 2025, Officers Lund and Southworth were dispatched to an “unknown medical” at Russell’s Automotive. Upon arrival within minutes, they located an unresponsive male with no pulse.

Officer Lund initiated ventilations while Officer Southworth applied the AED and performed chest compressions, delivering shocks as directed. They continued lifesaving efforts alongside Lakes Region EMS and coordinated transport to a medical helicopter landing zone at the North Branch Fire Department.

Their swift actions and composure under pressure directly saved the victim’s life. In recognition of their extraordinary service, Officers Lund and Southworth were awarded the North Branch Police Department Life-Saving Award on July 27, 2025.

It is also worth noting that two staff members employed at Russell’s Automotive at the time of the incident initiated life-saving measures prior to the arrival of responding officers. In recognition of their actions, both individuals were presented with Life Saving Award plaques.

Congratulations to both officers, staff on scene and thank you for your outstanding service to our community!

🚧 Heads up, drivers! MnDOT's Hwy 97 Reconstruction Project kicks off next week on June 2. Expect major road closures and detours — be sure to plan ahead to avoid delays!

Crews will begin their work on the west end of Hwy 97 between Hornsby St. and Falcon Ave. in Forest Lake.

By 5 a.m. on Monday, June 2, Hwy 97 will be closed in both directions between Hornsby St. and Falcon Ave. The following detours will be in place for through traffic:
• Eastbound detour: Northbound I-35, eastbound Hwy 8 to southbound Hwy 61.
• Westbound detour: Northbound Hwy 61, westbound Hwy 8 to southbound I-35.
• Southbound I-35 to eastbound Hwy 97 detour: Southbound I-35, Broadway Ave., northbound I-35, eastbound Hwy 8 to southbound Hwy 61.
