As RRF marks its 25th anniversary, it is well worth celebrating, but without continued donations and educating our members that it exists, the REALTOR® Relief Foundation won't be able to sustain its mission to "never say no to a family in need."

Again, my ask is simple… please share with your members so they too can feel the joy of giving!

When REALTORS® unite, California leaders listen. In just over 24 hours, REALTORS® made more than 12,000 calls to help stop AB 736—protecting Californians from higher housing costs. C.A.R. will continue defending homeownership, protecting taxpayers, and keeping the California Dream of homeownership within reach.

RED ALERT: AB 736, a transfer tax bill currently moving through the California Legislature, could significantly increase the taxes homeowners pay when they sell their homes. This issue matters to every homeowner in California. Please urge your legislators today to vote NO on AB 736.

AB 736 would allow local governments to increase transfer taxes on home sales far beyond what most Californians pay today. For example, for a home that sold for $900,000, the tax could increase from roughly $1,000 today to as much as $13,500 or even $27,000 in some cases.

For many homeowners, that money would come directly out of the equity they have worked for years to build. Whether you're planning to buy, sell, or remain in your home for years to come, policies like AB 736 that increase housing costs will affect all Californians.

C.A.R. CEO Phil Hawkins, President Tamara Suminski and President-elect Mark Peterson are off to a busy start in Washington, DC, this week, where they’re meeting with REALTORS® from across the country as part of the National Association of REALTORS® Legislative Meetings.

Items on the agenda include increasing the housing supply, tax policy, and the availability of property insurance.

They’ll also meet with California congressional offices and U.S. Senators to discuss legislative solutions to the state’s housing crisis and other issues impacting California’s REALTORS® and consumers. They do this because .

Earlier in the year, the Board of Supervisors received a brief presentation on a potential special tax for road maintenance - a one cent sales tax. At Tuesday’s BOS meeting (6/2), the Department of Transportation (DOT) Director shared with the Board that a page had been added to the DOT website regarding the potential special tax. I’ve included the flyer and survey link.

The board previously voted 4-1 to move forward with the potential special tax on the November ballot. I was the dissenting vote due to the concerns of constituents regarding the current economic pressures everyone is facing, and the lack of road maintenance that has happened in the last decade in the first district. Ultimately though, this would go before voters to make the decision.

We will be discussing the potential special tax again at the July 5th Board of Supervisors meeting.
