Recovery marks one of the most significant battles in Ohio's early history — but before any of this land could be settled, claimed, or built on, surveyors had to map it first. Every boundary, every township, every section line in Ohio started with someone on the ground making sure it was right. That work still holds today.

Happy President's Day! Our founding father, George Washington, was a land surveyor. President Washington studied surveying and geometry in school which helped him begin his surveying career by first helping his neighbor. He later became the first County Surveyor for Culpeper County, Virginia. Washington laid out most of northern Virginia. Over the years of 1747 to 1799, he surveyed approximately 200 tracts of land.
