On the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Fairhope has built a reputation as one of the most charming small towns in the entire South. Founded in 1894 as a single-tax colony, it has evolved into a community of artists, writers, and independent thinkers who have nurtured a downtown unlike anywhere else in Alabama.

The Fairhope Municipal Pier stretches out over the bay at twilight in a way that looks almost impossibly beautiful. The purple and rose light of sunset lingers over the water, the old pavilion glows softly at the end of the pier, and the faint silhouette of Mobile shimmers on the far shore. It is a scene that has inspired countless painters and photographers and will continue to do so.
