On the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Fairhope has built a reputation as one of the most charming small towns in the entire South. Founded in 1894 as a single-tax colony, it has evolved into a community of artists, writers, and independent thinkers who have nurtured a downtown unlike anywhere else in Alabama.

The Fairhope Municipal Pier stretches out over the bay at twilight in a way that looks almost impossibly beautiful. The purple and rose light of sunset lingers over the water, the old pavilion glows softly at the end of the pier, and the faint silhouette of Mobile shimmers on the far shore. It is a scene that has inspired countless painters and photographers and will continue to do so.

Fairhope is Alabama slowed down to its most thoughtful, most beautiful tempo. If you have not been, you are overdue.

Follow Alabama Life and discover the small towns that give Alabama its soul.

Tucked away along the banks of the Bon Secour River, Tin Top Restaurant & Oyster Bar is one of those places that feels like a true Gulf Coast discovery. While visitors often flock to the better-known restaurants in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, locals have long known that some of the best meals can be found down the quiet roads of Bon Secour.

The drive alone is part of the experience. Moss-draped oaks, shrimp boats, and winding waterways remind visitors of what the Alabama Gulf Coast looked like before high-rise condos and crowded beaches arrived. By the time you pull into Tin Top, it feels like you've stepped into a different era.

Known for fresh Gulf seafood, oysters, shrimp, fish, steaks, and Southern favorites, Tin Top has earned a reputation as one of Baldwin County's most beloved restaurants. Many guests first discover it through word of mouth, then find themselves making the drive back every time they visit the coast.

What keeps people coming back isn't just the food. It's the atmosphere. Tin Top feels authentic. It's the kind of place where fishermen, locals, tourists, and families all gather around the same tables.

In a region famous for seafood, that's saying something.

For many people, Tin Top isn't just a restaurant. It's a Gulf Coast tradition.
