I too was diagnosed with squamous cell recently on my face and thigh. It’s been many weeks and still healing from the liquid chemotherapy. This is terrifying to me.

Most of you don't know who this is — it's Grace Brewster Hopper. She was an American computer scientist, mathematician, and United States Navy rear admiral. She was a pioneer of computer programming. She developed COBOL (1960), an early high-level programming language still in use today.

But that’s just the surface.

In 1943, Grace Hopper left her position as a professor at Vassar to join the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was assigned to the Harvard Mark I team and became one of the first programmers of the electromechanical computer. While debugging one machine, she discovered an actual moth trapped inside the hardware — giving birth to the term "computer bug."

She wasn’t just a coder; she was a rebel. Too old to enlist? She got a waiver. Told women didn’t belong in tech? She built the tools that now power it.

Grace continued working well into her 70s, famously saying, “The most dangerous phrase in the language is: ‘We’ve always done it this way.’” She changed the world by refusing to accept limits — and brought computers into the modern age.🎖
