Your thoughts on multi-generational households?

In the 1960s, researchers found a small Pennsylvania town with half the heart disease rate of everywhere around it. They studied the food, the water, the genetics. None of it explained it.

The town was Roseto. It had been settled by immigrants from a village in southern Italy. They ate fried foods. They smoked. Many were overweight by the standards of the time. By every individual health metric, they should have had average or worse outcomes.

What they had instead was each other.

Researchers eventually concluded that what protected Roseto was its social structure: multi-generational households, a dense web of civic organizations, neighbors who knew each other, elders who were respected rather than isolated.

Over the following decades, as younger generations moved away and the community thinned out, the heart disease rates rose to match the national average.

The medicine was the town itself.
