๐ŸŒ€ Hurricane Milton Relief Donation Drive ๐ŸŒ€

Hurricane Milton has left damage in parts of SWFL, and just like during Hurricane Ian two years ago, weโ€™re here to do it again in partnership with Dee's Company to support those affected. Our islands, like Fort Myers Beach, Captiva, Matlacha and Sanibel, suffered tremendous damage during Ian, and they were just starting to rebuild. Now, with Hurricane Helene causing damage earlier and Milton making things even worse, theyโ€™ve been hit hard once again.

But itโ€™s not just the islandsโ€”tornadoes spawned by Milton have caused destruction in parts of our community, leaving many in need of immediate help. Whether itโ€™s on the islands or inland, weโ€™re determined to bring relief to everyone impacted.

We are also keeping everyone affected by both Hurricane Helene and Milton in our heartsโ€”whether youโ€™re in North Carolina, Georgia, or any other part of Florida, we stand with you. We are all in this together.

Hereโ€™s how you can help:
Cleaning Supplies: Trash bags, gloves, masks, bleach, water, brooms, etc.
Gift Cards: Loweโ€™s, Home Depot, or other stores to help with repairs.
Donations: Non-perishable food, baby supplies, clothes, hygiene products, etc. and blankets are also greatly needed.

Drop-off Location: ๐Ÿ“ 3850 Colonial Blvd, Ste. 200, Fort Myers, FL 33966

๐Ÿ•“ Monday - Friday | Drop Off Hours: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Our community showed its strength after Ian, and now, two years later, weโ€™ll do it again. Letโ€™s come together to help our neighbors, whether theyโ€™re on the islands, impacted by tornadoes, or in other states facing their own challenges. We are stronger together.

๐ŸŒ€๐Ÿšจ Be Prepared for the Unpredictable! ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŒ€

๐ŸŒช๏ธ As we've seen with hurricanes Charlie and Ian, Mother Nature can throw us a curveball when it comes to storm paths. That's why it's essential to be ready for anything, just like we're doing with Hurricane Idalia on the horizon. Here's how to stay ahead of the game and keep your loved ones safe:

๐Ÿ›’ Stock Up: Gather perishable food, a non-electric cooking device, and a cooler with ice. You won't regret it!

๐Ÿ› Save Water: Fill your bathtub the night before the storm and plug it. This water's a lifesaver for showers, and flushing toilets.

โ›ฝ Fuel Up: Gas up your car and stash an extra gallon in the trunk. You never know when you'll need it.

๐Ÿ”‹ Power Essentials: Load up on batteries, flashlights, and charge all devices to 100%.

๐Ÿ  Home Prep: Board up windows, use sandbags to redirect flooding, secure outdoor items, and take inventory with photos and videos.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Pet Care: Bring those fur babies inside, they're family too!

๐Ÿ’กStay Connected: Get walkie-talkies for when cell service goes down. And remember, save 911 for real emergencies.

๐Ÿงฐ Emergency Kit: Pack a first aid kit, medications, and essential supplies like deodorant, sanitizing wipes, and personal care items.

๐Ÿ”Œ Power Backup: Invest in a generator, just in case. But set it up at least 20 feet from buildings and away from open windows.

๐ŸŒŠ Flood Safety: Steer clear of floodwaters โ€“ they're more dangerous than they look.

๐Ÿš— Travel Ready: Have car chargers, travel-size toiletries, and extra clothes handy.

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Waste Management: Stock up on disposable plates, cups, utensils, and trash bags โ€“ keeping things clean even when the power's out.

๐Ÿ”Š Communication: Keep a crank weather radio to stay informed.

๐ŸŒŠ Hydration: Don't forget bottled water! It's a must.

โ„๏ธ Ice Trick: Freeze a cup of water with a coin on top. If the power goes out, you'll know how long it's been.

๐Ÿ“œ Important Docs: Safeguard important documents in waterproof cases.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Community Spirit: Chat with neighbors and work on a post-storm cleanup plan.

Remember, while we're sharing these tips, you can always check the FEMA website for more detailed information. Let's remember, we can't control the storm, but we can control how prepared we are. Stay safe, stay ready, and let's weather the storm together! ๐Ÿ’ช

UPDATE ๐ŸŒ€ As of 11 AM Monday, Hurricane and Storm Surge Warnings have been issued for portions of the Florida West Coast, including Tampa Bay. A Major Hurricane is possible at landfall Wednesday morning between St Marks to Tampa Bay. Highest probability is closer to Cedar Key.

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA : I am not expecting a local landfall based on current models. The eyewall, the worst part of the storm, will be up the coast and away from our area. "Are you sure??" Every storm is different. Ian models continued to trend east and east and east leading up to its eventual landfall in Southwest Florida. Consensus models, often the better performing, recently haven't done that and in fact, have shifted back west a bit. It's called the windshield wiper effect. Instead of focusing on every east and west shift, look for consistency and the average. Which is right now pointing towards where the NHC cone is. What Southwest Florida will experience are impacts typical on the eastern "dirty side" of a storm and more comparable to a tropical storm...which is why we are currently under a Tropical Storm Warning. Locally, you do not need to put up Hurricane Shutters based on the current forecast. Here is what I'm expecting in Southwest Florida:

๐Ÿ‘‰ RAIN: 1 - 3" on average. I do have a few models showing the potential of what's called "training," where narrow bands of heavy rain move over the exact same spot. In those limited and isolated spots, 6"+ of rain *if* they set-up.

๐Ÿ‘‰ WIND: West of I-75 (coast) wind will be sustained during the storm's peak between 20 - 35 mph, gusting 35 - 55 mph. Few occasional gusts to closer to 60 mph possible right at the beach during squalls. East of I-75 (inland) wind will be sustained during the storm's peak between 15 - 25 mph, gusting 25 - 45 mph. I'm not expecting widespread power outages, but a few isolated areas can't be ruled out.

๐Ÿ‘‰ SURGE: 2 - 4 feet Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning with some coastal flooding. Unfortunately Idalia's arrival will also be coinciding close to the 2nd August Full Moon, which produces greater tidal swings. Lower low tides, but also higher high tides.

๐Ÿ‘‰ TORNADOES: Will be possible because of our position on the eastern "dirty side" of the storm with enhanced twist and spin aloft. You're in good hands though with WINK Live Doppler 3X, Southwest Florida's Most Powerful and Accurate Radar. The minute any cell starts to spin, you'll immediately know about it from our WINK Weather Team.

๐Ÿ‘‰ OTHER IMPACTS: Higher surf and beach erosion.

We will feel impacts from this storm in Southwest Florida, but not to the caliber or intensity of Hurricane Ian. For those struggling with PTSD after the storm, I hope that will bring comfort. If you're reading this from an area in a Hurricane or Storm Surge Warning along the Florida West Coast, please wrap up plans TODAY. Don't wait. If told to evacuate because of the potential of life-threatening storm surge, please do so. Make sure to stick with WINK News in Southwest Florida for your #1 source for Idalia updates. I'll be with you every step of the way with the latest with no hype, just facts weather.
