Downtown Fort Pierce is enforcing two-hour parking limits starting this morning, June 1st, and the city hired two new part-time parking enforcement specialists to make it stick.
When it applies: Weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in designated spots throughout downtown.

Where the two-hour limits apply:
Marina Way between U.S. 1 and the City Marina
Orange Avenue between U.S. 1 and the oceanfront
Atlantic Avenue between Second Street and Melody Lane
North Depot Drive between Marina Way and Orange Avenue
Second Street from Avenue D to Citrus Avenue
South Indian River Drive between Marina Way and Citrus Avenue
Melody Lane between the City Marina and Boston Avenue

Free unrestricted parking is still available in lots between Avenue H and Boston Avenue east of City Hall, plus two parking garages behind City Hall and next to the St. Lucie County Courthouse.

What a ticket will cost you:
First offense: $50 if paid within 30 days
Second offense: $100 if paid within 30 days
Three or more offenses: mandatory special magistrate hearing, possible immobilization or towing if you owe $150 or more in delinquent citations
Handicapped parking violations start at $250

Worth noting: The two-hour limit has technically been on the books since around 2008, but with only one part-time enforcement specialist from 2018 to mid-2025 the rules were rarely enforced consistently.

What downtown businesses are saying: Reactions are split. Some owners say customers can never find parking because employees take all the spaces early in the morning. Others say two hours is not enough, particularly for restaurants, spas, and service businesses where visits naturally run longer. Workers on long shifts are raising concerns about having to park in the garage, with at least one employee citing safety concerns walking to the garage at night.

What's next: The city says it will use parking data and community feedback to assess future parking initiatives.

🏠 BREAKING: DeSantis Calls Special Session on Property Tax Relief

Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling lawmakers back to the Capitol Monday for a special session to put a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that could eliminate property taxes for most Florida homeowners.

Key Details: 🏡 Initial homestead exemption would increase to $250,000 📊 Would eliminate property taxes for ~60% of homesteaded homeowners

Democrats warn this could be "devastating" to local governments, while Republicans say it's time for major tax relief.

What do you think? Should Florida eliminate homestead property taxes?

The New Bridge is Opening Soon!

New S.R. A1A North Causeway Bridge Opening May 15, 2026 🚧

The City of Fort Pierce is pleased to share that the FDOT Southeast Florida will open the new S.R. A1A North Causeway Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway on Friday, May 15, 2026, by 8:00 a.m., weather permitting.

This new high-level fixed bridge replaces the existing drawbridge, providing a more reliable connection between S.R. A1A and U.S. 1/S.R. 5. The project represents a major investment in improving safety, enhancing infrastructure resiliency, and strengthening connectivity for residents, visitors, and marine traffic throughout St. Lucie County.

Key features include:
• One 12-foot travel lane in each direction
• Improved navigational clearance for marine traffic (85 ft vertical / 125 ft horizontal)
• Barrier-protected sidewalk and shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists
• Buffered bicycle lanes on both sides of the bridge
• New observation deck (opening at a later phase)

Additional improvements enhance access and connectivity along Old Dixie Highway, Juanita Avenue, and Sunny Lane, while also linking to the East Coast Greenway.

⚠️ Please note: At opening, some pedestrian and bicycle features, as well as the observation deck, will remain temporarily closed as construction continues. The existing drawbridge will be permanently closed and removed as part of the final phase of the project, with construction continuing through late 2027.

The City appreciates the community’s patience throughout this project and looks forward to the long-term benefits this improved infrastructure will provide.
