The Indrio Savannahs Preserve is now open to the public following an 18-month restoration project that reconnected the historic marsh system and restored freshwater wetland habitat.

Funded through the American Rescue Plan, the project reconnects a three-acre wetland to a former sand-mining lake, helping slow and naturally filter stormwater before it flows toward Taylor Creek and the Indian River Lagoon.

The project also added native wetland plants and a pedestrian boardwalk connecting visitors to trails on the western side of the preserve. View information on this preserve and many others by visiting www.stlucieco.gov/erd

Big changes may be coming to Fort Pierce’s waterfront. A major redevelopment is proposed for Causeway Cove, including 913 residential units, two hotels, retail space, a marina expansion, and buildings up to 17 stories.

Because the project qualifies under Florida’s Live Local Act, the city has limited authority to approve or deny it if it meets the state’s affordable housing requirements.

This is a project I’ll be watching closely, as it could have a significant impact on Fort Pierce’s future growth, housing market, and infrastructure. What are your thoughts?
