π€β€οΈπ Happy Juneteenth π€β€οΈπ
On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word that they were free. This news came more than TWO YEARS after the Emancipation Proclamation had already declared it. Freedom was delayed, but it was not denied.
I'm a first-generation Jamaican-Haitian American. A Realtor and Realtist. A vet tech turned business owner. A dressage rider. A girl with an OTTB, a Hungarian Warmblood, a donkey named Felix, and three Nigerian Dwarf goats, who wasn't born on a farm but got there as fast as she could. π΄π
I have always existed in spaces that werenβt always welcoming to people who look like me. Despite that, I try to show up fully, intentionally, and without apology for doing what I love.
Homeownership is one of the most powerful tools for building generational wealth in this country. It always has been. And for far too long, it was one of the tools that was systematically kept out of reach for Black Americans through redlining, discriminatory lending, and policies designed to exclude.
That history is real. The future will be built on the ability to overcome those historical roadblocks and increase Black homeownership rates which is what NAREB & RADE work toward.
I remember the feeling of being a first-time buyer accepting the keys. My goal is to help families build equity instead of paying someone elseβs mortgage. We work to help every person who thought homeownership wasnβt possible for them and then found out it was.
This is my contribution to what Juneteenth represents.
Today Iβm celebrating freedom, progress, and the work thatβs still left to do.
Iβm grateful for every ancestor whose resilience made my life and my business possible. π€
Happy Juneteenth. π
