FINISH - My 2025 Word of the Year
J.K. Rowling once wrote, “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic, capable of both inflicting injury and remedying it.” This quote resonates deeply because words hold the power to shape our thoughts, guide our actions, and transform our lives.
As we step into a new year, imagine the magic of choosing just one word to define your intention for growth. This single word becomes your compass, influencing your decisions and mindset. Unlike a long list of resolutions that can feel overwhelming, one word serves as a focused anchor, reminding you of what truly matters and keeping you grounded throughout the year.
Since January 2017, I’ve chosen a Word of the Year. Each year, that word has brought clarity and direction, helping me navigate challenges and remain aligned with my priorities. It’s a simple yet powerful practice that has kept me centered, even during life’s busiest and most chaotic seasons.
For 2025, my word is Finish.
I’ve realized that while starting projects is exciting, I often struggle to see them through to the end. Whether it’s at work or at home, I leave tasks unfinished, constantly juggling too many spinning plates. This leaves me feeling behind and unfocused. Yet, I know that by committing to finish, I can accomplish so much more.
When projects go unfinished, they don’t just disappear—they linger, draining my energy and taking up mental space. Completing what I’ve started allows me to honor the time and effort I’ve already invested, fulfill my commitments, and experience the satisfaction of crossing the finish line.
This year, I’m embracing the discipline of finishing. I will focus on what truly matters and give it my best. At the same time, I’ll recognize when it’s time to let go of projects that no longer serve me, my family, or my mission, understanding that sometimes I just have to let things go.
What about you? Maybe your word this year is Start, to take the first step toward something new. Or Health, to prioritize your well-being. Perhaps it’s Consistency, to show up fully and build habits that last.
Take time today to reflect on your goals. Write down a few words that resonate with your aspirations. Narrow it down to one that excites you, and place it somewhere visible as a daily reminder.
What will your Word of the Year be? Share it with someone and let’s make 2025 a year of intentional growth and transformation.
Here’s to finishing strong!
