How do you look past the things you hate when you’re buying a home?

I learned that lesson firsthand when we bought our Fort Wayne home in 2016.

When Jeff first pulled up to the house, I actually told him to cancel the showing and drive away. 😂 I hated the exterior.

Then we walked inside…and I hated it even more. Brown. Beige. Outdated. Definitely not my style.

But then I started paying attention to something more important:

What could we change — and what couldn’t we change?

We could change paint, flooring, fixtures, finishes, and eventually even the exterior.

We couldn’t change the fact that it backed up to a pond. We couldn’t add that huge basement somewhere else. And we couldn’t recreate a layout that worked really well for our family.

That experience has genuinely shaped the way I work as a REALTOR® today.

When I’m helping buyers, I want them to look beyond someone else’s decorating choices and recognize the things that are much harder - or impossible - to change.

And when I’m helping sellers, I remember that your house does NOT have to be completely remodeled or perfectly styled to find the right buyer. Sometimes we just need to figure out which improvements actually matter and which ones don’t.

Ten years later, I’m pretty glad Jeff didn’t listen to me and drive away. ❤️

What does it feel like to close on the sale of a home that holds so many years of memories? ❤️

CONGRATULATIONS to the Sasse family on officially closing the chapter on their Fort Wayne home today!

I’ve known Courtney, Jason and their family since they moved to Fort Wayne in 2018, and I never could have imagined that eight years later I would have the privilege of helping them sell the home where they raised their two youngest kids and made so many memories.

What is there to do in Fort Wayne after you move here?
